Author's Note: Okay. I'm listening to a song that puts me into a romantic mood when I write, so here we go with a Carter and Dr Alvah fan story. Keep in mind. The characters don't act like they do in the show. My interpretation.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------Part 1:
During a normal work day, I would be sitting in my office chair, hearing the sounds of nothing but silence. Ricky and Joey would be outside doing whatever they felt the need to do on a Tuesday afternoon. But today, I have a visitor. Well, not exactly. He came to work with me. And he was no other than my... ex..friend Carter Greene. We had a past together, that wasn't very nice, but we had both agreed to put all negative feelings away and just focus on work. Sadly, for him, it has been quite noticeable that he is not capable of keeping his feelings for me private. I mean, he doesn't know that he is showing another side of him, that only I have seen. Things like during the day, he holds the back of my chair tightly and leans in close to me while looking at my computer. He even tried to grab my hand once, which was thankfully off of camera. But now, he has been working with me for about 3 months now, and we have given each other some looks knowing that we are thinking the same thing. But I think that we are thinking we need each other again. Because that is what I am feeling. I need him.
Carter storms into the office a while after, and sets himself down at the window seat. He looks behind him out the window and then onto his phone because I can tell he really wants to talk but can't because Ricky and Joey are playing cards on the table. "Ricky. Joey. Do you mind? I would like to talk to Carter in peace." I say. They immediatly get up because they know what happens if they don't. Once they are gone, Carter sighs. "Oh. gosh. I was wondering when that would happen. I've been wanting to talk to you about something important." I turn my chair around to face him. "Is an army of aliens coming down to take you to their city because if they are please tell me the time." Carter sighs again. Then he gives me his usual look, the look of we need to seriously talk. "Come on Mallory. I know when you need to talk. We've known each other for a long time." I turn back around. "Who says I can't just talk to myself? I have whole conversations sometimes with my head." Carter laughs and then sits back. "I can understand this attitude. Now if you would let me explain what I have to say." I sigh. "Go ahead." Carter shifts on the seat. "I wanted to discuss this with you first before I tell her. Because she is kind of important to you too in a way." I look at him perplexed. "Who are you talking about?" Carter sighs for the third time, and looks up. "Kacey, our.... daughter is in town again." My mood changes immediatly. "What do you mean she is here?" Carter looks down. "What I mean is, I have been taking care of her ever since I started working here." I sigh but not the sigh that a calm person would do. "Can we put this conversation for another time, I don't really feel up to this right now." Carter places his head into his hands. "I mean, when do you wanna talk about this again?" I roll my eyes. "Not now, Anytime but now." I look back at him and he looks annoyed. "Look. How about.. later, you and I, we take a walk around the city and you tell me what you were going to say." Carter agrees.
Soon. it's time for us to go. Carter places on his coat, and takes mine, but I take it from him. "Thanks." I say. Once we get outside, the cold air touches the top of my nose. "So. Back to what I was saying, Kacey is living with me now because I felt it was time for her to be introduced to her real father. Not saying it's time for you yet, when you want to, you can tell me. Okay? That's it." I look at him. His grey blue eyes are shining as we walk past the lights on the trees. He smiles. "That's it?" I ask. "That's it. And I want you to understand this Mallory. I'm here for you. Anytime you wanna talk, I'm here. Wow. That sounded less cheesy in my head." We both laugh and continue walking. We stay quiet for a while. Then Carter breaks the silence. "Do you wanna head back?" I nod. The frigid air has turned more.. um frigid as we walk back to the building. Carter's hands shuffle between us. Soon, I feel the need to hold onto his arm. I take his arm and he doesn't even look at me. I guess he feels the same way. When we get to my building, I'm honestly kind of sad that the moment is over. Instead of just letting me go into the building, he takes me into his arms and hugs me. My whole body goes numb. This is the closest feeling that I've felt to true love in a long time. When he finishes his embrace, he looks at me. We stare into each other for a while, until he notices my hands and leads me inside. Before letting him go, I give his hand a squeeze and then I enter the building.
Ch 2
I left Mallory walking into the building that night. That is the closet I've ever gotten to her in a long time. At least the closest she's ever let me get to her. I wanted to give her the k word, but I decided to hold off. She accepted the embrace, now give her some room. I was always in love with Mallory. Never stopped and started again. Never forgot her, always had her in my mind somewhere. She had no idea that I was showing too much PDA in front of our co-workers, holding her chair and getting close to her when she wanted to show me something on her computer. But just the shock and romance that went into that night, I couldn't get her off my mind. "Dad. Daddd!!! Are you gonna help me or not?" Kacey says. She is tapping my arm with a pencil. "I know who and what you thinking about. But now is not the time! We have the whole weekend to help me with this project. Pleeeaseee?" I leave my zone out and back to reality. Kacey and I have been working on her science fair project for at least 5 hours now. "I think we both need a break. Wanna order something?" Kacey sighs. "Sure. Should I call Mallory to join us?" I take the phone from her as soon as she is about to call. "No, we shouldn't disturb her work hours," Kacey rolls her eyes. "It's Saturday. Dad, She wouldn't be at work." I roll my eyes back at her. "Nope. She goes in on Saturdays. Haha." She rolls her eyes for the second time and organizes her books. "So. how are things between you two?" She asks. I want to tell her great, but things haven't been so great since that night. Everything was just normal all week. Kacey shrugs when I don't say anything. "Just fine. Everything is fine. Okay. I think she might be in love with me. I mean, I love her and all but this is Mallory we are talking about. You know?" Kacey shakes her head. "No I don't. I've never met her before." I roll my eyes again. "Whatever, What I'm saying is, I think that finally our love might be mutual." Kacey brightens up. "Then congrats dad. You have to introduce her once you are dating." "Promise."
